LDC 2009 charters Airbus in cooperation with Afriqiyah Airlines

Due to the high number of participants, press, VIP’s and staff that will be joining the Libya Desert Challenge in March, the rally organisation & its Libyan partner Fessano Tours, have negotiated a deal with the Libyan airline company Afriqiyah Airways to charter their own plane. The majority of clients will arrive from destinations all over Europe, approximately at the same time, on 2nd March.
With the provision of this chartered service participants will literally get off one aircraft and onto another for the one hour flight south to Sebha where the rally will kick off. To make this even easier for participants we have agreed with Sebha airport and the Libyan authorities to host our first bivouac in the airport grounds, minimising travel time and hassle for everyone.
For the return journey on the 11th March, our private plane will bring everybody together from Sebha to Tripoli, 2 hours before the connection flights to Europe. The rally ends on the 10th, and on the 11th at noon, everybody’s back home. http://www.afriqiyah99.eu/

150 registrations for LDC 2009

Libya Desert Challenge 2009: with 150 registrations already LDC is fast on its way to becoming the largest rally in the Sahara

The efforts and results from March 2008 have paid off: breathtaking landscapes, the highest dunes of the Sahara, challenging roadbooks and an organisational team who were always ready to go that extra mile. The positive comments from experienced Dakar racers and participants from many countries spread quickly with the result that over the last three months registrations have been arriving on a daily basis.

Currently we have 150 racers lining up at the starting line in March 2009; 45 quads, 35 motorbikes and 35 cars. In order to create optimum conditions and support for our participants the organisation has limited the number of registrations to 200, this will be managed on a “first come, first serve” basis. Looking at current registrations and interest we expect to have a “full house” by the middle of January.

Current breakdown of participants per country:

Italy: 21
France: 19
Belgium: 48
Libya: 12
Holland: 8
Spain: 4
Lithuania: 12
Egypt: 14
The Arab Emirates: 4

Germany: 5
